Project Background

EMLID is a global technology company founded in 2014, specializing in high-precision positioning systems accessible to everyone. Today, they are present in 110 countries, with their devices performing thousands of measurements daily—from glacier surveys and wildlife monitoring to augmented reality (AR) solutions.

Main activities:

  • Manufacturing GNSS receivers: such as the Reach RS2+, RS3, and RX models.
  • Software development: including Emlid Flow and Emlid Studio, which support surveying workflows.
  • Application areas: land surveying, construction, drone mapping, archaeology, utility inspection, and landscape architecture.

The central functions of their multinational operations (sales, marketing, management, accounting) are supported from their Hungarian headquarters using an integrated system based on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, aligning global inventory and order management with digital sales channels.

The operational model covers the entire product lifecycle—from manufacturing and sales to post-sale support of sold products.

EMLID approached several Hungarian Business Central partners with the need to operate, support, and further develop a new Integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. However, no one took the ERP needs of the then-startup seriously. At Tetra, we are open to innovation, so alignment with EMLID’s decision-makers quickly developed. To support their fast and agile business operations, they needed an innovative partner who works at a similar pace, has an ownership mindset, and, after understanding their operational model, proactively contributes with development ideas.

The Solution

The implemented Business Central system primarily supports sales by synchronizing orders from regionally operating parallel e-commerce websites and providing real-time inventory management. The webshops use Shopify and WooCommerce systems to support B2B and B2C-focused services, with local price lists, tax rates, framework agreements, and custom discounts.
 

A very important addition to the ERP system is inventory optimization and forecasting supported by artificial intelligence (AI) through add-ons.

Emlid also requested Tetra’s support in enabling an operation focused on distinctive competitive advantages and supporting it with the system. A particularly critical element of this is outsourcing global accounting to external subcontractors, who work directly in Emlid’s ERP system with encrypted and secure access—ensuring cost-efficiency, high service quality, real-time data, and fast processing speed.

Result

The most important result of the collaboration between Emlid and Tetra is the successful creation of an AI-supported global, real-time inventory management system. The implemented predictive model forecasts expected inventory depletion across regions and channels, ensuring that neither stockouts nor overordering hinder efficiency.
The integration and automation of webshop services eliminated human errors from manual processing, resolved the issue of stuck orders, and significantly shortened the order processing time (average admin time per order dropped from 10 minutes to instant).
The system provides secure, real-time access and full operational visibility to both the business analytics center in Germany and the external accounting firm, enabling transparent operations and immediate responsiveness to market changes for the management.
